2023 CSA Week #5 Update

Nicole

Greetings from the flower field!

I’m excited to say that the first week of the CSA Cut Flower Add on is HERE! This year’s cut flower season started unusually early with plenty of Sunflowers. Our best guess is that the Sunflowers appreciated the dry, mild weather and therefore put on an early show. This is just proof that each year will be different based on the weather alone, and what plants thrive most in the conditions Mother Nature chooses to give us.

Quickly following the Sunflowers is a beautiful looking crop of Lisianthus, Celosia, Paper Daisies, and other fun flowers that are just waiting for some sunshine to POP.  Keep an eye out for some exciting new additions we are experimenting with to see how they perform in the field, such as Mahogany Splendor Hibiscus, grown for its lovely, burgundy, maple-like foliage; our mixed color Ageratum, and my new personal favorite- Gomphrena Fireworks!

For the best vase life of your cut flowers, please keep them cool and hydrated! Put a fresh, clean, cut on the base of the stems at an angle and fill your vase with flower food and cool water. ENJOY!

Have a great week,
Nicole
