Freezing Melons
Cantaloupes, watermelon, honeydews, and other melons are easy to freeze. Here's how to freeze melons, with or without sugar.
Ingredients:
- Fresh melon
- Water
- Sugar (optional)
Equipment:
- Ice cream scoop
- Knife
- Freezer container (or bags)
Preparation:
- Select the fruit
- Prepare the syrup by disolving sugar into luke war water, mixing until the solution is clear. (Use the chart below)
- Chill the syrup before using.
- Cut the melon in half, remove seeds and rind. Cut melon into slices, cubes or balls.
- Pack into containers and cover with syrup (the sugar syrup will retain freshness, flavor and color) Or just fill the containers or freezer bags without the syrup.
- Seal the containers and freeze.
