Northeastern Back-to-Back Art Contest Champs

The winner of the Annual Interscholastic Holiday Mural Art Competition was announced Tuesday, December 19 at Miller Plant Farm in York, PA. For the second year in a row, Northeastern High School had the most votes to claim the overall prize.

The Art Competition, in its 4th year, had 6 local high schools participate: Dallastown, Northeastern, Spring Grove, Susquehannock, York High, and York Suburban. All neighboring school districts were invited to participate in this festive contest showcasing local talent. Miller Plant Farm provided the canvases to the art departments this Fall and they were returned to the Farm and hung in the garden center prior to Thanksgiving. The murals adorned the walls for holiday shoppers throughout the Season. Votes were just 50¢ each, and you could vote unlimited times.

With a total of 606 overall ballots cast this year, $303 was raised by voters for the winning high school. Miller Plant Farm matched the total raised and presented Northeastern High School’s art department with a check for $606. Dustyn Miller, 5th Generation farmer at Miller Plant Farm, said, “We are thrilled with the community response of our Art Contest this year. Working with the local youth to display their talent in our garden center is an honor. It’s just a small way for us to give back to the community that supports us year in and year out.”

Miller Plant Farm looks to continue the Annual Interscholastic Holiday Mural Art Competition next year and hopes to increase the number of involved high schools.
